Chrysocolla




Hydrated copper silicate that ranges from blue to green, sometimes brown to black.

There is “gem silica’"(quite rare and fairly expensive with a hardness of 7) that is often referred to as chrysocolla. It is not, but actually is chalcedony colored by the same mineral salts.   Druzy chrysocolla has a crust of small sparkling quartz crystal in small cavities.

 Hardness=2-4 (A very soft stone)

Onyx

 Onyx is in the chalcedony family and comes in a wide range of colors. Some onyx is evenly colored while some is banded. Onyx is easily dyed, so beware of the more unnatural looking colors, such as bright blue, etc. Onyx with red or black and white bands is sometimes referred to as "Sardonyx". Carnelian is sometimes considered as Sardonyx, but this generally applies to the orange variety. The type called flint is grey, smoky-brown, or brown-black.  A type of onyx called “Chert” (similar to Flint) is grey to black. 

Hardness: 6.5-7.0.

Apatite




The "neon" or "swimming pool" blue is the most famous, but comes in a whole range of colors--green, brown, softer or dark blues, gray, white and violet.  the chemical composition is mostly phosphate, the same material that makes up the teeth, bones, horns, tusks, antlers and hooves of various animals. Wear as jewelry or place in purse or pocket.  It is a softer stone.

Hardness:  5

Mystical:  Manifestation, see things clearly. Boost your motivation to succeed.

Chrysoprase

 


The most expensive and prized of all Quartz  (chalcedony) varieties, translucent to opaque mint to grass to apple green. Also known as Australian Jade, but is not a jade at all. Citron or Lemon Chrysoprase is yellow and more opaque.  Called the "Stone of Venus."

Hardness=6-7

Scolecite

 


Usually colorless or white, but can be pink, salmon, green or red, due to presence of trace minerals. Transparent to translucent with a white streak and vitreous luster or silky in fibrous specimens. The colors other than white have slightly different properties. Absorbs negative energies, so should be cleansed or cleared often. Set a piece by your ointments and creams so they can absorb its healing energy.

K2 Granite

 


Also known as Ketonite. Thought to be mostly granite as a base stone with azurite inclusions.  Some specimens even have small dots of malachite.  Sometimes referred to as "Raindrop Azurite" formation.  It is almost unprecedented in the geology world to see White Granite and Azurite together. Was only recently discovered in the foothills of the K2 mountain.  Be careful as there are many "fake" stones out there made from granite, but dyed with blue spots.  Should be cleared at least once a month.

Hardness=about 6

Dragon Blood Jasper





Olive green mixed with red. It is not actually a Jasper at all but  a mixture of Epidote, which is the green mineral, and Piemontite, which gives it the red coloration.  It also may show some dark gray. Name comes from legends that the stone was formed from the remains of ancient dragons. Was given to warriors as a talisman of protection.

Hardness=6.5 to 7

Chakras:  Heart and Ignites Root chakra.

Mystical:   Lighter, less dense energy than true Bloodstone. Said to impart Bravery and unwavering Courage and to protect life.  Overcome challenges.

Kunzite

 

~~ the best-known  transparent or translucent variety of the mineral spodumene.  Gets its delicate bubble gum pink color from trace amounts of manganese Also rarely found in various shades of green, yellow, lilac and even clear.

Indigo Gabbro

 


Indigo Gabbro ~~silicate that’s rich in iron and magnesium and has a beautiful mixture and incredible array of colors, from light indigo to black. and gray. Found in Madagascar and is nicknamed the ‘wise soul’.

 In the sunlight,   it has a kind of violet iridescence that’s beautiful and unique.  Also called Mystic Merlinite. but not to be confused with Merlinite, which is a dentritic agate, and which is itself also often confused as a type of opal. Indigo Gabbro is also often confused with Blizzard Stone, which is a different type of Gabbro found in Alaska.

HARDNESS: 4-5

Tourmaline


Tourmaline~~ an unsurpassable stone. Comes in a wide variety of colors, all with a lovely fire. In fact, a single bead may have layers and layers of colors - hues and shades of subtle intensity.

The colors of tourmaline are as natural as life itself. This is because color has an immediate impact on our emotions. Tourmaline shows the greatest color range of any gemstone, almost any shade is possible,  from jet-black to the colorless. Its multiple shades embrace the entire universe in all its hues, and the many subtleties of color make it an immensely enjoyable gemstone. The name justifies its nature, which comes from an ancient Sri Lankan word, turmali, which means "of various colors."
