Amazonite

 

 

Description: blue-green variety of microcline feldspar It gets its name from the Amazon River, where it was first discovered. There are 2 color varieties--the more common pastel aqua, the other, a deep blue/green. It often has a striped pattern with the teal alternating with white. Also called Russian Turquoise or the lighter variety Russian White Turquoise. (even though, it is not from Russia, nor is it white, nor is it Turquoise.) The most therapeutic is translucent teal. Called the "Hope or Peacemaker Stone."

Aventurine

Crystalline Quartz contains inclusions of small crystal (unoxidized minerals) and gives a range of colors - depending on the nature of the inclusion. Hence aventurine may be green, greenish-brown, bluish-white, bluish green and orange (which is called “red”, peach or apricot). Aventurine’s claim to fame is having inclusions that look like sparkles that is called aventurescence.

Desert Lapis (Dumortierite)

Hard, opaque gemstone, (aluminum borate silicate) usually a dusty, often dark denim blue, though rarely brown, green, violet or pink (Violite).  It is rapidly gaining popularity, probably because it goes well with denim. Dumortierite Quartz is blue colored quartz containing abundant dumortierite inclusions. Sometimes mistaken for Sodalite  and has been used as imitation Lapis Lazuli.
